Race is a social construct. It is important that race is a continuous discussion in this country, as this country was predicated upon it, and it has such a bearing on the present. As black men on the predominately white campus of Appalachian State University, my partner and I found the discussion and this project to be affirming and eye-opening.
We co-wrote and co-designed a book, titled “Veils”. This project also included an installation wherein we made connections utilizing vinyl and strings from the walls to the floors to emphasize points that were prevalent from the book. The space we were afforded for the installation was truly un-conventional yet, we made it work in our favor.
Collaboration with Jarrod Mayes. Personal project.
